Celebrate Irish Pride at the NYC 2017 St. Patrick’s Day Parade

For over 250 years, the NYC 2017 St. Patrick’s Day Parade has been marching along the city streets annually. Join this time-honored tradition and celebrate Irish heritage when you attend on March 17th.

All About the St. Patrick’s Festival in NYC

HOLIDAYS_ST-PATRICKS_marching-band-in-paradeThe first NYC St. Patrick's Day parade marched past the old St. Patrick’s Cathedral in 1762, and comprised a group of Irish military serving with the British in the colonies and ex-patriots who were homesick for their mother country.

Parade Route
Today, that spirit of love for Ireland continues. The St. Patrick’s Day parade route heads past the current St. Patrick’s Cathedral, under review of the Archbishop of New York, and heads up 5th Avenue to 79th Street. Hundreds of thousands march, and millions join the crowd of spectators to watch.

Attending the Parade
The NYC St. Patrick's parade begins at 11:00 a.m. on March 17th. Show up along 5th Avenue, between 44th and 79th Streets, to watch. The parade can also be watched online and details are available on the parade website.

Parade Charities
The parade will honor two organizations, the New York State Police and the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York. Both are turning 100 years old in 2017, and represent closely-held Irish-American values, faith, and service.

2017 Grand Marshal
Each year, the Irish festival in NYC names a Grand Marshal to lead the festivities. For 2017, that honor is going to Ireland native Michael J. Dowling. He has a long history of public service and is the president and CEO of Northwell Health, a network of hospitals, health care centers, and educational organizations in New York.

Finally, when you’re in the area, don’t forget that The Manhattan Club close to the St. Patrick’s festival in NYC for easy access.  We hope everyone has a great time at the parade!
