Your Personal Winter in NYC Bucket List!

It may be colder and the days may be shorter, but there is so much to experience this winter in NYC!

Nyc central park winter

Even though the weather is colder, there’s so much to explore and do during the winter in NYC. We've put together a short “bucket list” of our can’t-miss activities for you...

  • Visit Rockefeller Center
No matter if you’re in town when its famed tree is still standing, or find yourself visiting when the New Year has already begun, there’s much to do in and around this NYC institution. Of course, you can take a twirl on its famed ice rink. Or, head to the Top of the Rock and get an awe-inspiring view of the entire skyline. But be sure to also check out some of the unique shopping locations such as the recently reopened FAO Schwarz, the American Girl Place, or the Lego Store.
  • See a New York Ballet Performance at Lincoln Center
George Balanchine's The Nutcracker may be the be-all and end-all “list-worthy” entry, but this famed company always makes every trip to Lincoln Center worthwhile. Of note – Tchaikovsky will be returning when “The Sleeping Beauty” hits the stage in February.
  • Catch a New York Rangers Game
Madison Square Garden may also be the home of the Knicks, but this year, the New York Rangers are making a run for Lord Stanley’s Cup. If you don’t want to partake in skating yourself, cheer on some of the NHL’s best while they do!

  • Tour the New York Botanical Garden
It may seem like a “warmer weather” destination, but the Botanical Garden enchants visitors all-year-round. The centerpiece of their winter events, the annual Holiday Train Show, showcases all of the famed NYC landmarks, constructed completely out of natural material from their garden.

If you want to make the most out of your winter in New York City, check out our special offers and book your suite with The Manhattan Club!

The Manhattan Club’s Guide to The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

The big day is tomorrow and all of New York City is getting prepared! Are you?

Planning to visit New York City for Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade? The Manhattan Club has put together a quick last-minute guide on how to get the most out of this beloved NYC holiday tradition!

Before the big day (TODAY – Wednesday, November 21)

Watch the balloon inflation.
Before Charlie Brown and the Red Power Ranger take to the air, they need to be inflated. From 1:00pm – 8:00pm on the streets around the American Museum of Nation History, all of the larger-than-life balloons will be blown up to their gargantuan final size! It's truly a sight to behold!

Decide on your viewing spot.
Don’t wait until Thanksgiving morning to pick your viewing destination. With around 3.5 million spectators expected, you best be prepared with a few choices. Columbus Circle is ideal for those who don’t want to do the most planning as there are many spaces available. For the early birds, we’d suggest scoping out Central Park West.

IT’S PARADE DAY! (Thursday, November 22)

Get to your spot… early. Even if the parade starts at 9:00am, many are out claiming their spots before the sun comes up. If you are traveling into the city, consider the holiday traffic. (Or maybe next year, decide to stay with us at The Manhattan Club to avoid the inevitable delays).

Be prepared and have a wonderful time!
It's going to be extra cold over the next couple of days, so be prepared for the cold weather that is heading our way, with lots of cozy layers, hats and gloves.
After the last balloon has passed you by, be safe when traveling to your Thanksgiving festivities. Many of those 3.5 million other parade attendees are also trying to get “out of town”. The worst traveling time is said to be around 1:00pm, so consider catching a quick bite to eat, or spend some more time walking around and enjoying the magical sights of NYC!

Wishing you all a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Four Places That Should Be On Everyone’s List of Holiday Shopping in NYC Destinations!

A returning favorite joins a list of traditional and contemporary destinations to ensure you make the most out of your holiday shopping in NYC!

The magical feeling of the holiday season is on full display throughout the streets of New York City, making our beloved metropolis a top destination for gift shopping. From the standard department stores to the ever-present holiday markets in NYC, The Manhattan Club has compiled a list of four can’t-miss spots to enjoy the sights and sounds of the season while checking off the names on your list!

Bryant Park Holiday Market
We’ve already spotlighted this homage to the traditional European open-air markets of yore, yet The Holiday Shops at Bryant Park should be on every shopper’s list of can’t-miss gift giving destinations. Over 100 vendors line aisles of festive outdoor stalls and offer a wide variety of gifts from artisan crafts to designer goods and delicious homemade treats.

Macy’s
A true landmark of our city and known for its festive spirit worldwide (from the spectacular Thanksgiving Day Parade to the film “Miracle on 34th Street”), this retail giant still brings the holiday cheer. Taking up an entire city block, this destination is also famous for its beautifully festive window displays.

Dylan’s Candy Bar
Kids and those young-at-heart won’t want to miss this three-story shop of all things candy. A great place to fill up those stockings, you’ll find sugary delights from every era!

FAO Schwarz
“Return to Wonder” as this NYC landmark returns home after closing its doors in 2015. In a new location at 30 Rock, all of your favorite, larger-than-life, features (such as that giant piano) will return to this Wonderful World of Toys (opening November 16th).

Shopping at any time in The City That Never Sleeps is a fun-filled yet hectic activity. For the holiday season, ensure you have a place to wind down and relax after all of the action when you book a suite with us at The Manhattan Club.

See The Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall Kick Off The Holiday Season in Style!

Always considered a top reason to visit the city during the holidays, this year’s Christmas Spectacular in NYC promises to be the can’t miss festive event of the season!

Radio city music hall
Have you only ever witnessed the perfectly in-sync, high kicks of these iconic dancers during the television broadcast of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade? This is how many of us become captivated, but it’s only a glimmer of the magic that is performed four times a day at Radio City Music Hall each winter. Starting on Friday, November 9, 2018 and running through Tuesday, January 1, 2019, the Rockettes will take the stage in the all-new Christmas Spectacular in NYC!

A Time-Honored Tradition Meets the 21st Century!

It may be hard to believe but these dancers, so long synonymous with NYC, got their start in St. Louis, Missouri. The Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall started in 1932, and a year after their arrival, the 30-minute Christmas Spectacular was born! Fast-forward through the decades, and this show now truly lives up to its “spectacular” name – over 90 minutes full of holiday-themed dance numbers and theatrical elements that pay homage to the old but with an eye on the future.

Favorite features such as the Parade of the Wooden Soldiers and the Living Nativity remain. Yet new for 2018, technology meets tradition as they introduce a brand-new finale that will transform the entire Hall into a “groundbreaking magical holiday light-show”. Over 100 drones will take flight and promise to leave audiences, young and old, entranced by this wonderfully new "Christmas Light”!

Add your own personal memory to this NYC holiday tradition

Planning on spending the most wonderful time of the year in New York? Then why not start by booking a suite with us, here at The Manhattan Club. Only three blocks from Radio City Music Hall, as well as being near everything in the city that makes the holidays so bright, our comfortable accommodations are the perfect home base for all of your NYC holiday explorations.

Man club leaves
Once the costumes are put away until the next All Hallows’ Eve, the attention turns to giving thanks. While always a time of reflecting on the many things in our lives to be thankful for, this November holiday has many traditions that have become celebrated over time. Turkey dinners, football games, preparing for Black Friday shopping – all customary events that will take place across the Red, White, and Blue! Yet, if you’re looking to start a new tradition this year, The Manhattan Club has three unique and fabulous events to help you celebrate your Thanksgiving in New York City!

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Whether you take in the pre-flight Balloon Inflation, or wish to see the finished product make its way down 34th Street, the magic that started 93 years ago will surely leave you spellbound. One warning – watching from home will never be the same again!

The Radio City Rockettes

Kick off the holiday season on the proper foot by swinging by Radio City Music Hall to see the legendary Rockettes perform their Christmas Spectacular.

Prospect Park Turkey Trot

Always a fun way to start off the day, the annual 5K run through the fall foliage of Prospect Park is actually early on Thanksgiving morning - a wonderful way to bring everyone together for a joyful celebration of the season, a healthy start to a delicious food-filled day, and a great gathering of the community.

Thanksgiving is also a great time to experience all of the everyday wonders of visiting NYC. Have your Thanksgiving meal at a classic restaurant, take in the holiday window displays as you get in some early gift shopping, or just visit a few of the iconic sites that we are thankful to have as part of our Never Sleeping city. Another holiday tradition to start: stay with us at The Manhattan Club. A truly classic NYC hotel, our luxurious suite accommodations we will make sure that you still feel right at home while making new traditions in the Empire State.
