Summer Restaurant Week in NYC Cooks Up Food & Fun!

The best restaurants in NYC are preparing to serve up the first-class food that has made Summer Restaurant Week a fabulous, can’t-miss event since 1992

Eating restaurant food
Summer Restaurant Week in NYC is almost here! This semi-annual event is a celebration of our city’s love of food. With the best restaurants in NYC preparing prix-fixe menus, and at an affordable price for both lunch ($26) and dinner ($42), New Yorkers and visitors alike eagerly anticipate when this NYC summer event “goes live” in July.

Although Summer Restaurant Week in NYC doesn’t officially begin until July 23rd (through August 17th) reservations can start to be made as early as July 9th at more than 350 participating restaurants.

So the question has to be, how do you choose from so many? Do you try the menu of a trendy newcomer or stick with one of your tried and true favorites? It's a wonderful chance to experiment, enjoy lots of delicious food, and make the most of all that our city chefs have to offer. But, how can you adequately prepare for your Summer Restaurant Week in NYC experience if the list of participants has yet to be announced? Fortunately, The NYC Insider Guide has given us plenty of great tips to make sure that everyone enjoys this “week” long celebration.

  • Most restaurants do not participate during the weekends, so it's best not to expect a Saturday night prime time table during Restaurant Week.
  • Monday to Wednesday reservations tend to be easier to get than those for Thursday and Friday.
  • When making a reservation, be sure to check the dates and mention you are booking for Restaurant Week.
  • When being seated, ask for the Restaurant Week menu.
  • Review the menu in advance, as there are usually fewer choices on the RW menu than normal. If you have eating restrictions, you may be limited.

While you're having fun reviewing menus and planning where to eat in New York City, why not start thinking about where to stay? We'd love to have you here - located in the heart of Midtown, The Manhattan Club would be your perfect home-base for your Summer Restaurant Week in NYC.

The Beat Goes On All Summer Long at SummerStage in Central Park!

The sweet sounds of summer in New York City have arrived with the 33rd anniversary of SummerStage!

Music reggae guitar concert
Since the 1980’s, there’s been one iconic music festival that has highlighted summer in New York City. And when we say New York City, we mean all five boroughs, as SummerStage includes events that occur almost every day and cannot be contained to one city park. No matter your preferred genre, you’ll be sure to discover that one of these mostly free concerts in NYC has the music that speaks to your soul.

Running this year from June 2nd to September 27th, there will be over one hundred shows with the main-stage being at the iconic Rumsey Playfield in Central Park. There's so many, that just reading through the SummerStage schedule  is a fun event in and of itself.

Some of the more high-profile events, including Jason Mraz (August 9) and Mac DeMarco (September 8), require tickets, but most of the concerts are free. It is truly a highlight of the summer, and many of us feel that the line-up gives us some of the best free concerts in NYC for the entire year. Along with the amazing tunes, there will be lots of local food vendors, so be sure to show up early, get a prime spot in the park, and get ready for some great summer music.

If you're plans include getting lost in the beauty of the Alonzo King LINES Ballet (July 25th) or being inspired by the new generation of social justice warriors in VOICES of a People’s History (August 28th), then book a room with us at The Manhattan Club. Only a quick walk away from all of the wonderful events, we're the perfect home base for enjoying this perennial NYC summer highlight!

Start Spreading the News: The 4th of July Fireworks in Manhattan Are On Their Way!

The nation’s largest fireworks display, the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, is ready to light up the Empire State!

4th of July fireworks in Manhattan

Expressions of patriotism come in a variety of forms, but for many Americans, there is no bigger and brighter display of love of country than the annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks. This is a day for all those who bleed red, white and blue to feel pride for Old Glory and no one does it better than the Melting Pot of America! Just imagine taking in the display of the firework bombs “bursting through air” over the East River when the NYC 4th of July celebrations begin.

Even though it seems like the 4th of July fireworks in Manhattan can be seen from The Battery to The Bronx, there are a few spots that ensure you’ll have the best view when taking in this patriotic light show (at approximately 9:25PM):

  • Manhattan’s FDR Drive (between Houston Street and Midtown East): This is the “Official Viewing Site” for the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks show. It’s perfectly parallel to the barges that set off the show, promising the best views. Yet a word of warning: CROWDED!
  • Lower Manhattan’s East River Park, Brooklyn’s Grand Ferry Park, and Queens’ Gantry Plaza State Park: All three boroughs’ premier parks stay open on the evening of the NYC 4th of July celebrations and are the perfect venues to take in the amazing show overhead.
  • iverPark, Little River Beer Garden, Salvation Taco Rooftop: Want some grub while you enjoy the 4th of July Fireworks in Manhattan? These three restaurants along the river always promise a foodie-fun time (space is limited).

If you are heading to the city (or staying) to check out the show, plan ahead and book a room with us at The Manhattan Club. Our comfortable accommodations are the perfect home-base, no matter where you decide to watch the “bombs” burst!
